We’re looking for an Active Faith Community Leader who cares deeply about people and connection. As a member of our Board of Directors, you’ll join a group of compassionate leaders working together to build safer, more supportive communities. Your voice and experience can help guide our shared mission and strengthen the path of hope and healing we’re creating together.

Violence Free Faith

Founded in 2022, Violence Free Faith is an inter-faith nonprofit organization committed to the belief that everyone deserves a life free from violence and abuse. 

The organization works in two main areas:

  1. To prevent and respond to religious abuse by promoting safety, accountability, and healing within faith communities through training, consultation, and collaboration with faith communities
  2. To partner with national, state, and local social service providers to help them engage more effectively with faith communities in supporting survivors of abuse.

Board Details:

This is a working board; board members will be actively engaged in the operations of the organization at this time. In the near future, we’ll hire staff and transition the board to a governing board.

Board members serve a three-year term and may serve up to two consecutive terms.

There is no financial contribution required. We ask that you bring your skills, gifts, and talents to our group so we can root ourselves in our values of:

All board meetings are held virtually via Zoom. The board meets approximately six times per year (every other month). Board members must commit to attending at least four meetings annually and, if unable to attend, are expected to review the meeting minutes afterward.

Faith Community Leader – Board of Directors

The Faith Community Leader role is a vital member of the Board of Directors, providing insight into the needs, values, and perspectives of faith-based communities and helping strengthen the organization’s mission alignment, partnerships, and outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mission Support: Actively promote and uphold the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Faith Community Perspective: Bring the voice of faith communities into board discussions and decisions.
  • Governance: Participate in establishing organizational policies, ensuring legal and ethical integrity, and maintaining accountability.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to long-term planning and help align organizational goals with community needs.
  • Advocacy & Outreach: Serve as an ambassador between the organization and faith-based communities, fostering relationships and collaboration.
  • Resource Development: Assist in identifying potential partnerships, funding opportunities, and community resources.
  • Board Engagement: Attend regular board meetings, serve on committees as needed, and actively contribute to board initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience
    • Active minister, clergy member, or recognized faith leader.
    • Bachelor’s Degree required. 
    • Theological education preferred.
    • Track record of community service and social impact.
    • Prior board or governance experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge & Skills
    • Knowledge of the dynamics of violence and abuse.
    • Strong communicator and relationship-builder.
    • Ability to engage diverse stakeholders and faith communities.
    • Experience with fundraising, advocacy, and outreach.
  • Personal Attributes
    • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
    • High ethical standards, integrity, and accountability.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with board members, staff, and external partners.
    • Willingness to dedicate the necessary time to board work.
