The United States Centers for Disease Control consider sexual violence a public health epidemic and the below stats show how prevalent it is.

Over half of women and almost 1 in 3 men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes.1

One in 4 women and about 1 in 26 men have experienced completed or attempted rape.2

About 1 in 9 men were made to penetrate someone during his lifetime.3

One in 3 women and about 1 in 9 men experienced sexual harassment in a public place.4

We at Violence Free Faith urge faith leaders to recognize that these statistics hold true for the women and men in their congregations and communities. If you see it or not, there are survivors of sexual violence around you all the time.
